SHERRY WEXLER
Psychotherapist

Sherry received her MSW from Wayne State University and has extensive experience in the field of clinical social work including treating clients for ADD, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, anxiety and depression. However, she feels her most profound education and work experience came from raising her own gifted children who are now adults. This combined with her natural ability to understand the complex personalities of gifted children has allowed her to form a therapeutic alliance with her clients and their parents. She creates a safe place for them to explore their emotions and gain coping skills which enable them to learn how to meet their social and emotional needs.

Sherry supports parents by providing guidance and psychological education. This includes sharing parenting strategies that will enhance their relationship with their child, enable them to support their child’s emotional growth, and create a more positive tranquil home environment.

Sherry’s goal is to enable the child to feel empowered by their gifts and to feel understood and valued just the way they are. By gaining coping skills both the child and their parents can improve the quality of their daily life. Learning how to regulate our emotions, embrace our strengths and learn from our challenges is something we can all benefit from during the therapeutic process.

Sherry is adept at helping children address issues commonly experienced by gifted children including perfectionism, ruminating thoughts, unrealistic expectations, boredom, feeling misunderstood, lack of motivation, asynchronous development, dysregulation, difficulty forming and maintaining friendships and reacting to intense emotions.

Sherry believes that when we are able to identify and embrace our true selves our symptoms of anxiety and depression decrease.

In her free time Sherry enjoys walking in nature with her husband and her Golden Retriever. She also loves to travel and experience culinary adventures with her family and friends.
