GROUP COUNSELING

What to Expect

Group therapy is a powerful tool that puts theory into practice.  Our groups are designed specifically to match kids with others who are similar developmentally, intellectually, though not necessarily chronologically.  The purpose is to have kids and young adults develop pragmatic language skills as they learn to relate, listen, and connect.

What Makes Us Different

We form a group when we have a group of kids who fit together. We never fill a group simply because we have the right number of kids. Our process focuses entirely on communicating. Our focus, alongside typical group process, is teaching pragmatic language skills: how to reflect, how to properly listen, and how to make sure you are listened to. This is not your normal group for teens.  We're not talking about the topic du jour, but rather allowing these gifted kids to connect at the level that activates them.

Limitations

Our group selection process is comprehensive. This means not every kid will be ready to participate in a group. Our team will determine if a group is an appropriate fit for your child.  Additionally, even if your kid would fit well in a group, we don't always have a group of kids who will fit.  This protects the integrity of our group process and keeps it effective and fun for all involved.
